Prevention of Herpes Symptoms

To prevent the spread of the herpes simplex virus, those with the infection need to abstain from sex or close contact during the virus' active phase when sores and lesions are present.  In addition, a condom should always be used as well as a water-based lubricant.  Monogamy is preferred.  With outbreaks in other parts of the body it is best not to touch the sores.  Maintain standard sanitary practices by washing hands regularly, especially after touching a lesion.
